Flint, MI- W/F Unknown Street- 10/14/07 : While on our trip to Detroit, we were told about Flint, Michigan and decided to head up Saturday afternoon. It is much smaller than Detroit but very similar. The city is filled with vacant dwellings, as many of its residents have left because of cutbacks in the auto industry. Similar to Detroit, Flint has an arson problem. They have fires nearly every day, and Devils Night still keeps Flint firefighters very busy.

We were talking with the firefighters at Headquarters when units were sent out for a structure fire. Squad 2 reported smoke showing and the first engine stretched in. They had a small fire in the rear of a vacant dwelling. The fire was quickly knocked down.

I would just like to thank the Flint firefighters at both the Headquarters station and Station 3 for their hospitality. It was great getting to meet them and I hope they all stay safe.

The second fire of the day began in a large commercial dumpster and spread to a loading dock of Community Fruitland on Budlong Road. The dumpster was full of papers and trash and required extensive overhaul. All of the photos in this gallery were taken by my daughter AMANDA CARMODY.
