A very close call for one of Cranston's Bravest this afternoon. Just before noon on January 30, 2013, firefighters responded to 414 Park Avenue for a house fire. On arrival, crews reported heavy smoke showing from a 1-story ranch style house. Upon entering the house, they realized that the fire was in the basement. A line was stretched down into the basement but companies were unable to locate the seat of the fire. Some companies were forced outside to change air bottles but not before the fire gained headway and cut a member of the Special Hazards off. He now realized that heavy fire was approaching his location and was already blowing up the stairs, his way out. He was able to locate a window and get the attention of a firefighter in the driveway. Luckily crews were able to get him out of the tiny window before the fire overtook his location.
