On the morning of February 10, 2013, Providence firefighters responded to 188 Waverly Street for a house fire. As companies were responding, a rescue reported heavy black smoke from that area. Engine 8 arrived first and reported a well involved 3-decker and ordered a second alarm. Crews faced several obstacles in battling this blaze as it came two days after an historic blizzard hit the state. Division 1 arrived on scene and requested a 3rd alarm and for all companies to withdraw from the house and begin defensive operations. Numerous ladder pipes and outside lines knocked the main body of fire down and kept the fire from spreading to nearby exposures.
We made great time getting into the area and then it came to a halt while trying to find someplace to park. Took probably ten minutes just to find a place to park and then to trek to the fire.
