Boston- 2nd Alarm- East Eagle Street-11/18/08 : On the afternoon of November 18, 2008, Boston Fire Alarm struck Box 6184 for a fire at 205 East Eagle Street. District 1 arrived and reported smoke showing from a 3-story wood frame dwelling. As conditions worsened, a second alarm was struck. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.
This fire happened in the East Boston section of the city, which is isolated from the rest of the city. Companies have to travel through the tunnels towards Logan Airport to get to "Eastie". At the time of the fire, I was on Washington Street in Roxbury and it took some time to get there.

Boston- Comm Ave, Citgo Sign-10/15/08 : Around noon time on October 15, 2008, Boston Fire Alarm struck Box 2312 for the Citgo Sign on top of 500 Commonwealth Avenue. The sign is a landmark in Boston and is seen by anyone going to or watching a Red Sox game, as it is seen over the top of the Green Monster. Engine 33 arrived to find a small fire in the sign. Access to the sign was difficult due to the height off the ground. Firefighters had to access the sign from the roof of the building and then climb a vertical ladder to the top of the sign. It took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Boston- Hanover Street-4/18/08 : While on a day trip with family and friends, we were walking from Fanueil Hall to Mike's Pastry in the North End. As we turned on hanover Street, I saw Engine 8 and Ladder 1 in front of a restaurant. It looked like Ladder 1's jacks were starting to extend and then I noticed the members of Engine 8 running out to the rig to get a line. Not having a radio with me or expecting to go to any fires, I didn't have my camera with me, it was in the car. Thankfully our friends had a camera with them that I quickly borrowed and took off. I could smell smoke but never saw any. They had at least two lines stretched and three aerials to the roof. It was funny to see that some people just went about their business, walking down the sidewalk as the firefighters are trying to stretch lines into the building. The restaurant that the fire was in was evacuated but the surrounding ones weren't affected and people just kept eating. Thanks to the Marcellos' for the use of their camera.

Boston- Sheraton Boston-10/5/07 : On the evening of October 5, 2007, just as Dice K was taking the mound for game two of the playoffs, Boston dispatched Engine 22 and Tower Ladder 17 to the Sheraton Boston for the Central Station Alarm. As Ladder 17 was investigating, they found a smoke condition on floor 3 and asked Fire Alarm to Strike the Box. Box 1568 was struck as crews searched for the source of the fire. Companies traced the fire down to the kitchen on the second floor of the hotel. All companies went to work pulling ceilings and checking for fire. Evac Chief 5 ordered companies to clear the fire floor and the area above the kitchen on the third floor. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.

I got into this box pretty quickly and found a decent parking spot. As I was walking up to the scene, an extremely large explosion rocked the area, about 1 block from the Sheraton. To me it sounded like one of those large metal plates that utility companies use fell the 10th floor of a building. People began running from the area and police officers that were at the Sheraton began running down towards the source of the explosion. A box was struck for the explosion and crews found an electrical vault was the cause. Management inside the Hilton Hotel, adjacent to the electrical vault, reported that the entire building shook and the lights went out for a second and then came back on.

On arrival, Engine 10 found a possible manhole explosion with a release of asbestos. Engine 10 requested Car 3 and shortly after his arrival, a Level-2 Hazardous Materials incident was declared. It appeared that workers were working on a manhole when it exploded, covering the workers and surrounding buildings in a red dust. The incident is under investigation, as well as the determination of what the red substance was.
