Just after noon, on September 12, 2007, the Boston Fire Department directed Engine 10 to meet T-13 at Otis and Summer Street. On arrival, Engine 10 found a possible manhole explosion with a release of asbestos. Engine 10 requested Car 3 and shortly after his arrival, a Level-2 Hazardous Materials incident was declared. It appeared that workers were working on a manhole when it exploded, covering the workers and surrounding buildings in a red dust. The incident is under investigation, as well as the determination of what the red substance was.
