Just before midnight, on October 12, 2007, a Box Alarm went out in the 9th Battalion directing units to Eastwood and Hayes for a dwelling fire. Battalion 9 arrived on scene and reported that the first engine, 50, would be stretching. The fire broke out in a 1.5 story, vacant house. Firefighters stretched inside but were withdrawn as heavy fire took hold of the entire structure. A ladder pipe knocked down the heavy fire on the second floor and crews then moved in for overhaul.
